Biomass
The Kyoto protocol set tough limits on greenhouse gas reductions and one way in which this will be achieved is through the reduction in fossil fuels and the increase in renewable energy.
Biomass is one such form of renewable energy and recovered wood is now being utilised for boiler fuel in energy production.
Some companies are opting for virgin wood fuels, pellets, crops or a combination of both. Others are choosing to go down the co-incineration route, blending virgin feedstock with recovered wood enabling larger developments.
The government is offering huge subsidies in the form of capital investment grants and then on an ongoing basis through ROC’s (Renewable Energy Obligation Certificates), a tradable commodity between fossil fuel suppliers and renewable energy producers. Targets are set to increase year on year to 12.5% for the period 2008-2012.
As a biomass developer or company wishing to provide a renewable source of energy, how do you know what installation would be best suited to your site? What fuel will be utilised? Is the fuel stream available? What are the boiler manufacturer’s specifications? What legislation will you comply with? How will you tender the supply contracts? How will companies be audited?
We will:
